Paige would have loved this event!
We were overwhelmed and honoured to be shown such an outpouring of support and interest in our 1st Annual Princess and Superhero Family Skate this past family day Monday at the Capital News Centre.
We would like to thank the great community and families of Kelowna and the Capital News Centre's management team for helping to make this a success. We could have never imagined to have over 300 people in attendance and raise $4359 for pediatric cancer research! When planning this event I had said it is about having fun together and about bringing awareness to kids' cancer research funding; so we were hoping for about 50 people to show up and we set a fundraising goal of $1000. Boy, were we happily wrong!
We were also surprised and encouraged by over 27,000 views on our Castanet.net story and all of the local tv news coverage. Also so touched by just how many Princesses and Superheroes did show up in costume, of ALL ages. We had wonderful costumes donated by OYA Costumes, Calowna Costume on Bernard and Fantasy Costume and Dance Wear in Red Deer, Alberta.
I'm truly thankful for the talented MC, the local DJ Haymaker, with his booming voice, and great themed tunes.
The door prizes, kids jewel jar guessing game, and raffles were a hit! For all of the great prizes we would also like to thank the following donors; The Peter Boyd Family, McCurdy Bowl, Kelowna Actors Studio, The Kettle Valley Steam Railway, 19 Greens Golf, The Kelowna Rockets, and The Kelowna H2O. Yummy hot drinks were provided by Starbucks on Lakeshore!
We are already looking forward to our skate next year and how we can address/speed up the line up that extended way out the doors! We hope to see everyone out in 2015 in memory of our darling angel Paige. Please sign up on our Home page with your email for reminders and information about our upcoming events.
